1936 Riley 12/4 Special

£22,000

Location: Cranleigh

The Riley was one of the most successful light sporting cars produced by the British motor industry in the inter war period. It was made by the Riley company of Coventry, England with a wide range of body styles between 1926 and 1938.

The chassis number determines the car is a 1936 Riley 12/4 Special which really is a gem, we personally completed an 80 mile vintage run in it, where it preformed faultlessly.

The running gear is from a Riley 9 Merlin which has had a full mechanical overhaul, to include both engine and gearbox rebuilds. It starts and runs fantastically and sounds great, fitted with twin SU carbs it has plenty of power and a good cruising speed.

As previously mentioned the Riley drives faultlessly, it changes gear correctly and handles superbly. The brakes are genuinely probably the best we have ever experienced on a pre war vehicle.

The body work is spot on and looks great, the paintwork is done to a very high standard, it is not concours but is very good.

The interior was retrimmed during the restoration and is in good order, the hood is complete with side screens and is water tight with no tears.

We have a huge amount of history and paperwork with the car, it has come from long term ownership where the car was lovingly cared for with a no expense spared attitude.
