1935 Rolls Royce 20/25 Windovers Touring Limousine
Sold
Location: Surrey
The Rolls-Royce 20/25 is the second of Rolls-Royce Limited inter-war entry-level models. Built between 1929 and 1936, it was very popular, becoming the most successful selling inter-war Rolls-Royce. Its success enabled Rolls-Royce to survive the Great Depression, and remain one of World's great brands. 3,827 20/25s were produced, and more than 70% of these survive in use.
GAF76 is a Rolls Royce 20/25 which was first sold to Windovers on the 17th August 1934 as stock. It was then registered in Bristol on 6th March 1935, and then lived with the new owner in Edinburgh. It is fitted with a very attractive Windovers Touring Limousine coachwork and we believe the only other car to have a similar design was a 1934 Phantom 2 Olympia Show car, although there are rumours of one also being sent to India with the similar fold down step design.
The engine runs superbly and sounds fantastic, although this is no surprise given it has been completely overhauled including, but not limited to, new aluminium cylinder head, pistons, white metal bearings, front and rear bearings and a new slipper ring. The radiator has been fitted with a new core and there are no overheating issues.
The drivetrain is no exception, it drives very well, the gears are direct and the clutch smooth. There are no nasty noises and drives as a 20/25 should.
The Rolls is fitted with a one-shot lubrication system and a DWS jacking system complete with handle and wheel spanner. The wiring has been replaced in recent times, all electrics are in working order as well as benefitting from a working heater. The vehicle is fitted with semaphore indicators with flashing indicators in the front and rear lights.
The coachwork, as mentioned previously, is a Touring Limousine by Windovers. It has some very unusual features such as steps which fold down when the doors are opened instead of the more traditional running boards. The paint work, in three colours - very dark green with light green side panels and black wings, has been completed to a very high standard and, although not concours, is very nice. The correct mascot is fitted.
The interior is fantastic and is in keeping with the quality of the rest of the car. The Cocobolo wood looks stunning fitted to both the front and rear. To the rear there is a centre division with fold down tables, as well as carpet with sheepskin over-rugs. The seats are in lovely order with no rips or tears, the front is black leather and pale green Bedford cord to the rear.
The present owner has owned the car for 27 years, there is a large amount of history including details of the engine overhaul, original build sheets and paperwork from previous owners.
