1935 Austin AAK Tourer
Sold
Location: Cranleigh
In 1934 Sir Herbert Austin designed a series of new vehicles in the Austin Seven range in a bid to compete with the transatlantic styling on offer from Ford and Morris. The Opal, Ruby and Pearl all had contemporary cowled radiators and more flowing lines as well as an extended chassis with a raised section over the rear axle to support the new coachwork. Unfortunately, it was also at this time when the general public had also cottoned on to the advantages of a saloon car and new production techniques not only made them more pleasurable to drive, but brought the price within reach for the working man. This sadly impacted the sales of tourers and the steep decline in popularity makes this early 1935 AAK tourer extremely rare - members of the Austin Seven club believe that there are just 15 AAK tourers thought to have survived.
The vehicle has been subject to a major restoration around 15 years ago. Since then it has mellowed nicely and is now a lovely example of this rare car. The engine is very strong, in fact one of the sweetest we've heard, and goes along nicely ensuring this little car is ready for any adventure!
The paint work benefited from a respray at the time of the restoration and is still in good order now, although depending on your plans there may be some areas you may like to touch up.
The roof and interior were replaced as part of the restoration and are as good as the day they were fitted. It also comes complete with full side screens, also in the same condition.
We have a lot of history with the car, including pictures of the restoration.
