1935 Austin 7 AAK Tourer
Sold
Location: Petworth
In 1934 Sir Herbert Austin designed a series of new vehicles in the Austin Seven range in a bid to compete with the transatlantic styling on offer from Ford and Morris. The Opal, Ruby and Pearl all had contemporary cowled radiators and more flowing lines as well as an extended chassis with a raised section over the rear axle to support the new coachwork. Unfortunately, it was also at this time when the general public had also cottoned on to the advantages of a saloon car and new production techniques not only made them more pleasurable to drive, but brought the price within reach for the working man. This sadly impacted the sales of tourers and the steep decline in popularity makes this early 1935 AAK tourer extremely rare - members of the Austin Seven club believe that there are just 15 AAK tourers thought to have survived.
This Austin 7 AAK tourer was first registered on 2nd April 1935 in Oxford, in more recent times it has spent the last 40 years in Guildford.
The engine starts and runs very well, it has good oil pressure and sounds well. It was rebuilt during the restoration and has a phoenix crank fitted, with external oil filter conversion.
The drivetrain is in good order with no nasty noises, the gearbox was also rebuilt and the clutch replaced. It handles well and goes along very nicely, with new tyres all round.
The bodywork is very solid, and the underside is clean and corrosion free. The paintwork isn’t immaculate but it is good and polishes up nice.
The interior was replaced during the restoration and is as good as the day it was done, it comes complete with full wet weather gear including side screens and tonneau cover.
