1927 Austin 7 Chummy

The Austin 7 is an economy car that was produced from 1923 until 1939. It was nicknamed the "Baby Austin" and was, at that time, one of the most popular cars produced for the British market. Its effect on the British market was similar to that of the Model T Ford in the US, replacing most other British economy cars of the early 1920s.

This Austin 7 Chummy was first registered in 1927 and later in on life has spent a number of years in Berkshire.

The engine starts and runs well, it bombs along nicely and looks to have recieved some mechanical work, it still retains a magneto but has been retro fitted with coil igntion and a new 6V battery.

The drivetrain is very typical of a Austin 7, the gate change gears are direct and the clutch as an Austin 7 should be. It handles nicely and brakes are durpisingly good, it also has new tyres all round.

The car is an older restoration and the body was rebuilt during that time and remains very solid. The paint work has melowed nicely and still polishes up nicely with some character added in.

The interior was retrimmed at the same time as the work that was carried out and is still as good as the day it was fitted, the roof has had some repairs but is water tight and comes complete with side screens which are in good order.
