1927 Alvis 12/50 TG Three Quarter Coupe

The 12/50 is a significant model in Alvis history for many reasons. It was the car that really marked the arrival of Alvis as a serious and successful car maker and set the standard for the remainder of the company's car production. Alvis took the basic side valve design and converted it to pushrod overhead valves in 1923 and all subsequent production Alvis cars had overhead valves. It was immediately apparent that this was a quite exceptional 1500cc sports car and, with minor changes, it was reborn as the immortal 12/50; the very quintessence of the vintage sports car.

Supplied new to dealers Henlys of London, this 1927 Alvis 12/50 TG was first registered on 13/09/1927. It is fitted with a three quarter coupe body built by the well known coachbuilders “Carbodies”.

The car drives very nicely. The engine starts straight up, runs very well and, as you would expect from an Alvis, has plenty of power. It is accompanied by a large amount of paperwork which details engine work which has been carried out over the years. The gear change is very direct and there are no nasty noises from the transmission. The steering is in good order and it handles very well making it genuinely a pleasure to be behind the wheel.

The bodywork is in fantastic shape, it is very solid and there is no evidence of corrosion or woodworm. The paintwork has bags of patina and really is a lovely survivor - it has so much character and we believe it to be one of the most original 12/50s around. The suppliers plaque is even still in place.

The interior is no exception - extremely original and aged well, it is in good condition and is very much in keeping with overall look of the car. The dickey seat is also in original condition and is as comfortable as an arm chair.

Some recent work includes brand new Blockley tyres fitted all round, including the spare, as well as the added bonus of indicators fitted for modern day driving.

As mentioned, the car comes with a large amount of history and paperwork, including the current V5.
