1926 Dodge Brothers Screen Side Pick Up

Sold

Location: Cranleigh

The Dodge Brothers Motor Company was established in 1913 and by 1914 the brothers had designed and introduced their first car: the four-cylinder Dodge Model 30-35 touring car. Marketed as a slightly more upscale competitor to the Ford Model T, it pioneered many features later taken for granted including 12-volt electrical systems (6-volt systems would remain the norm until the 1950s), 35 horsepower engines (versus the Model T's 20 horsepower) and sliding-gear transmission (the best-selling Model T retained an out of date planetary design until its demise in 1927). The brothers garnered a well-earned reputation for the highest quality truck and Dodge Brothers cars were ranked second in U.S. sales as early as 1916.

Dodge Brothers cars are fairly rare here in the UK, especially in this configuration. This 1926 example of the “screen side pick up” was imported from America in 2018. It is thought to have been a prohibition vehicle with a secret compartment in the rear floor - a really interesting find.

The engine runs very nicely, the gear change is very smooth and the brakes are in working order. The car is fitted with 12V electrics as standard and a coil ignition. Some work will need to be carried out to the lighting system to get a full complement of lights.

Shortly after the vehicle was imported the woodwork was completely rebuilt and new tyres fitted. The interior is in original condition and suits the overall aesthetic of the car.
