1925 Hampton T10
Sold
Location: Cranleigh
The Hampton was a British car made by the Hampton Engineering Company which was based in Kings Norton, Birmingham, from 1912 to 1918 and Dudbridge, Gloucestershire, from 1918 to 1933. Today Hamptons are a very rare car indeed - there are only 5 in total known to survive and, even more unusual, only one of this particular model!
Given their rarity, Hamptons are actually very well documented. Trevor Picken has pulled together a book detailing Hampton's more general history as well as a detailed history of each remaining car, with pictures, which includes the T10.
This car received a tremendous amount of work nearly 30 years ago. Found in a barn, work started to get her back on the road. It runs well and drives along nicely - it has its original meadows 4 cylinder engine with electric start and coil conversion. The 4 speed gearbox makes gear change direct and smooth and although a little noisy, so would you be at 100 years old! Finally, the brakes work well.
The interior was re-trimmed at the time of the restoration and, although basic, is in keeping with the car and in good order. There is a hood frame but it will need a canvas if you wish to use it.
The exterior is still in red oxide, and while we actually think it suits the car and its history, it also makes a solid base to paint if desired. The car is what you make of it - it’s perfectly usable as is, however you can go further with the restoration if wanted.
The car will come with a box of spares and the current V5.
