1914 Ford Model T Speedster
Sold
Location: Cranleigh
The Ford Model T made its debut in the US in 1908 and was soon a roaring sales success: it is often credited with being the first car that the "ordinary" person could afford. Henry Ford’s famous moving production line was introduced to build the Model T and it meant that build time per car was slashed from 12 hours down to just 93 minutes. When the car stopped being made in 1927, over 15 million had been produced.
There were many models to choose from: a roadster, tourer and town car, plus pick-ups, vans and buses. The original Speedster concept was one of many customs offered in 1913 by independent manufacturers, giving the owner a less expensive option to the very popular Stutz Bearcat and Mercer Raceabout.
This Model T Speedster is a nice example of an older recreation, benefiting from some period features. With a unusual circular windscreen, it's a real head turner. The ruby red paint work and cream seats are nicely mellowed and very fitting with the car.
It is believed to have a 3-1 ratio differential fitted, meaning a cruising speed of 50 mph is easily achievable. Starting well from the handle, the engine has had new trembler coils fitted and drives very well indeed, running smooth from cold.
There is nothing to hide with a Speedster - being a very open vehicle, everything is on show!
Recently UK road registered, this unique car is now road legal and ready to be used.
